Icon artist of the so -called Gothemburg scene and influential in the Melodic Death Metal scene had been fighting cancer since 2023

Confirmed on Tuesday, 16, the death of Tomas Lindberg. The vocalist of At the gatesone of the most influential names of the Swedish Heavy Metal and Death Metal globally, was 52 years old and fought a cystic adenoid carcinoma, a rare type of mouth and palate cancer.

In a statement, the band states:

“Tomas passed away this morning after complications related to your cancer treatment. Despite intense medical efforts, your life could not be saved. Tomas, you were an inspiration to us all. A true friend, compassionate and understanding. You will always be remembered by your generosity and creative spirit. We will miss you forever. Forever in our hearts.”

Although he discovered the disease in December 2023, Lindberg only made public diagnosis last August. The artist had undergone surgery that removed much of the sky and radiotherapy treatment, but earlier this year, exams found inaccessible cancer residues by surgery or radiation.

The singer left a son and a daughter, both teenagers.

Tomas was one of the founding members of AT The Gates, active since 1990. The group was noted for inserting the tants of melody to the aggressive footprint of Death Metal, as well as adopting more poetic and emotional letters than that practiced in the most extreme branches of heavy music.

The band was initially active until 1996. Then he returned briefly returned between 2007 and 2008 to finally have a permanent meeting in 2010. In all, seven albums were released, highlighting the revolutionary Slaughter of the Soul (1995).

The most recent work, The Nightmare of Beingcame out in 2021. Tomas Lindberg recorded recorded demos recorded for an eighth studio album, not yet expected to release.
