Vocalist believes that his band should be “now on the plateau taking off those camped guys”: “I’m not old for that”
The question “Why stop the Planet Hemp? ”, After a farewell tour between September and November with some dates performed by 30E, started the chat Marcelo D2 (voice), Bneagon (voice), Pedro Garcia (battery) and Daniel Ganjaman (guitar/keyboard) with the Rolling Stone Brazil.
But it didn’t even need so much explanation. The justification is coherent and involves a word not even recorded in a dictionary, even if it has enormous meaning.
D2, who is now 57 years old, but formed the group when he was around 25, even quotes a political situation that occurred in the national territory to justify his point:
“It has a level of ‘confrontability‘that lowers with age. We no longer want war. We want to live a little peace. […] And Planet needs blood in the eyes. I don’t want the band to soften and become a cover of itself. I would like the band to be on the plateau now [Praça dos Três Poderes], TAKING THOSE COVEREDS [apoiadores do ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro]touching the door and ‘setting fire’ in them. I’m not older for that. This is for a 20 -year -old kid – if it’s someone 20 years old who wants to do it today. ”
So far, there was no sign of softening by the carioca group, complete by Nobru (guitar) and Tingle (low). But the intention is precisely to preserve what has been built so far. Marcelo Complements:
“I can list 100 reasons for the end, many of them personal. We even said: Let’s end Planet and set up another band with another name and the same members. We continue to sound. But leave Planet Hemp Quieto. Leave this p#rra quiet there in the corner. I think the work was very well done. Planet Hemp is a hell of it.
The feeling of “duty accomplished” is what leaves Planet Hemp quiet to end activities at this point in his career. Despite intermittent activities – from the Foundation in 1993 until the first closure in 2001, with a return between 2012 and 2016 and another from 2018 – the group released seminal albums for Brazilian music and even for the country’s social discussion.
“Our role was done here, you know? A band like Planet Hemp needs 100% of our attention. We don’t have these 100% in our lives today to do that. And that hurts me a lot.”
At least during the farewell tour, the focus will be totally focused on the band. Daniel Ganjaman concludes:
“The total focus for a while is being a differential. All at Planet Hemp have their occupations, their parallel projects – that is, we can not even know what is parallel or priority. The fact that we can stop and direct all our attention to shows will be something different.
