A gesture by the band’s classical guitarist left his replacement moved between 2000 and 2004, to the point of writing a text with various compliments for publication on social media
In different ways, Slash and Buckethead made history in Guns N’ Roses. The first mentioned, obviously, is more linked to the band, as he has been there since the year of its foundation, 1985, and recorded the most famous albums. The second had the difficult task of replacing it between 2000 and 2004.
Apart from the use of Les Paul guitars, head accessories (Slash with a top hat and Buckethead with a bucket of chicken from the KFC franchise) and long hair, there are very few similarities between the two. One of them has a style strongly based on blues and classic rock, while the other is notable for its refined technique and experiments with different genres.
It doesn’t mean, however, that they don’t admire each other. On his Instagram profile, Slash shared a video of Buckethead along with a caption written by someone else. His replacement at Guns was so surprised that he wrote a text to thank him.
The caption released by Slash defines Buckethead’s guitar work as “on another level” and even leaves a warning: “support Buckethead whenever you can”. It wasn’t written by the current/classic member of Guns, but the republication sounds like an endorsement.

Happy with the gesture, Buckethead had a text about Slash published on Facebook. As translated from Igor Miranda websitehe initially said:
“I was really touched to see that this was on Slash’s page. Obviously, Bernie, Les and Brain [os demais músicos do vídeo] are involved and I am just a small fragment of it. These are some of the funniest people around. I just wanted to say that Slash is one of the all-time greats, as everyone knows. He has been involved in songwriting and his playing transcends decades and to reach such a large number of people playing guitar in such an incredible way is a very rare thing.”
Then he reflected:
“At the time I was involved in trying to play his parts, I could never capture the essence of Slash. So much of who he is comes through in his playing. I will always be amazed at how great he is.”
Slash over Buckethead
In a 2018 interview with Guitar WorldSlash gave a series of compliments not only to Buckethead, but also to the other guitarists involved with the album Chinese Democracy (2008), the only one by Guns N’ Roses without his participation. The comment was made because songs from this album frequently appear in the repertoire since the musician’s return to the band in 2016.
“It’s really cool, but it was played by guitarists who are very different from me in terms of style. I kind of adapted it to my own taste, but without losing the integrity of these songs. I want to give credit where credit is due: the guitarists who played on Chinese Democracywith Buckethead being one of the main ones – they are incredible guitarists. I need to congratulate them, because that stuff is good. Very different from what I do.”

Guns N’ Roses shows in Brazil
As reported, Guns N’ Roses returns to Brazil in October. The group, now a septet, will visit five cities with their new tour “Because What You Want and What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things” (“Because what you want and what you will get are two completely different things”).
Shows are confirmed in Florianópolis (21/10, at Arena Opus), São Paulo (25/10, at Allianz Parque), Curitiba (28/10, at Pedreira Paulo Leminski), Cuiabá (31/10, at Arena Pantanal) and Brasília (02/11, at Arena BRB Mané Garrincha). The fourth city, capital of Mato Grosso, welcomes them for the first time.
For all dates, the Raimundos will be the opening attraction. Formed today by Digão (voice and guitar), Marquim (guitar), Caio Cunha (battery) and Jean Moura (bass), the group released their ninth studio album, XXX, in May.
Guns N’ Roses haven’t been to Brazil since 2022, when they played at the Rock in Rio festival and went on a long solo tour. The new visit will be the first with the drummer Isaac Carpenter (former member of Awolnation, Loaded, Loudermilk and other projects), replacing Frank Ferrer, who left after 19 years of service.
After spending 2024 off the stage, Guns N’ Roses recently returned with a tour of Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
In addition to Isaac Carpenter, Guns currently features Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (guitar), Richard Fortus (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), Dizzy Reed (keyboards) and Melissa Reese (keyboards and synthesizers).
