PeTA invites Robert Plant to support “Plant Wool Month”, an initiative in favor of sustainable fashion
THE PeTAthe world’s largest non-governmental organization dedicated to animal rights, sent an unusual letter to the legendary singer of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant. The NGO asks him to temporarily change his name to “Robert Plant Wool” during November. The proposal is part of the campaign Plant Wool Month (“Vegetable Wool Month”), created to promote sustainable alternatives to sheep wool and encourage the use of vegetable fibers in the fashion industry.
According to NMEthe PeTA believes that the symbolic change would help draw attention to innovations in fabrics made from plants.
“Plant Wool Month celebrates animal-free and plastic-free yarns that promote sustainable fashion, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the animals we share this precious planet with,” he explained. Elisa Allenthe organization’s vice president of programs.
The NGO argues that the name change, even if temporary, could raise public awareness about the environmental and ethical damage of animal wool production — often associated with mistreatment and polluting industrial processes. The campaign shows that plant-based alternatives offer the same softness and comfort without compromising animal welfare.
Robert Plantknown for his sharp humor and for rarely getting involved in public campaigns, has not yet responded to the request. The British press, however, is already toying with the idea of seeing the legendary rocker going by the name “Robert Vegetable Wool” — which would undoubtedly be one of the most curious marketing actions.
