Rock in Rio 2022: Sepultura brings the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra to the world stage

The band presents an unprecedented show on the first day of the festival: “It will never happen again in this format”, warns Andreas Kisser

Rock in Rio 2022 will begin, the first day will be this Friday, 2, in the City of Rock in Rio de Janeiro. Among the many great attractions, the Sepultura band will do the honors and will be the first to perform on the Mundo Stage, at 5:25 pm. And the promise is of a historic show, which will see the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra alongside the group, in an unprecedented presentation.

“It’s a show that will never happen again in this format, it’s exclusive,” says Andreas Kisser, guitarist of the band Sepultura in a statement. Next to the guitarist I am Derrick Green (vowel), Paul Xisto Jr. (downward) e Elo Casagrande (battery).

For the long-awaited presentation, Sepultura will have songs chosen specifically for that day, with arrangements by maestro Alexey Kurkdjian. This is not the conductor’s first collaboration with the group, as he participated in A-Lex (2009), an album with a reinterpretation of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, entitled Ludwig Van. “We will play Quadra stuff, but we will not just make Sepultura songs. We will have other surprises, because the intention is also to honor classical composers”, explains the guitarist, also in the official promotional material, citing the new work of the band.

weight and softness

Kisser also points out that “the only challenge is the volume issue, it is necessary to balance the drums, which are naturally very loud, in addition to the electric amplifiers, with the orchestral sound, which is organic”, on this union of sounds the heavy music by Sepultura with the instrumental multiplicity of the orchestra.

“When composers like Mozart and Stravinsky released new sounds and new ideas, they were always criticized a lot. They were rebellious, they broke the rules and did what they felt, testing the limits of music,” comments Andreas Kisser, in the press material.
