Rock in Rio will have an initiative to recycle more than 4 million plastic cups


The festival audience will be in charge of disposing of waste in bins and disposal points; the recycled material will be used in personal care products

And this year’s edition of Rock In Rio promises lots of music and various attractions, without forgetting the care for the planet. The event will feature a partnership between Heineken, Coca-Cola and other brands, with the aim of recycling approximately 4.5 million plastic cups produced for the festival. Subsequently, the collected material will be transformed into raw material for the production of packaging for Natura personal care products.

The involvement of the public Rock in Rio it will be essential for the success of the action. To ensure the mobilization of the participants in the event, the partner companies will promote awareness of recycling and the correct disposal of consumer waste in the bins and points distributed by the Municipality of Rock.

The incentives for the correct disposal of plastics will be in the messages on the Coca-Cola and Heineken glasses, and also in a rewards system: through the action of the Braskem company, waste can be exchanged for points used to purchase gifts and experiences for Rock in Rio attendees.

Subsequently, the waste will be sent to the partner cooperatives of the festival, which will separate and properly dispose of the materials, making sure that they are transformed into resin. At the end of the process, the resin will be used to make packaging for body deodorants and other products.

Other editions of Rock in Rio were also characterized by sustainable initiatives: in 2019, a partnership between companies recycled the festival cups to make deodorant caps. In addition to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill, the help for recycling to save energy and contribute to the conservation of natural resources.
