The production enhances indigenous culture and tells the legend of a bird who was a boy
Those who go to Rock in Rio, of course, are more interested in enjoying the concerts of big international bands and artists. But not only from Coldplay, Justin Bieber, Iron Maiden, Green Day and many decibels is the festival. There are other artistic manifestations and one that has attracted a lot of attention is the Uirapuru show, presented daily in four sessions at Arena Carioca 2.
It’s a 25-minute musical about the legend of a bird. Whoever hears her sing and makes a wish, has the wish fulfilled. The plot tells the story of a forbidden love between a young warrior and the daughter of a leader.
The game was successful. According to the event organizers, just one of the Saturday afternoon sessions brought 1,000 people to the scene. On Friday, more than two thousand people moved into space.

“I think the whole experience is valid. I came to Rock in Rio for the first time in 2013, and it’s very different. It’s in a much better place, much bigger, and the festival nowadays is more than simple concerts, “said Maria Victoria Mattos, 27, from São Paulo, the event coordinator. “I really liked the presentation. The orchestra is wonderful, surreal. The production, the quality of the sound … I felt like I was joining Disney. Brazil is growing more and more in this.”
During the 25-minute show, 40 dancers and 30 musicians perform on a stage that has a 40-meter-long artificial waterfall and around 200,000 liters of water – it’s reusable. The show has the artistic direction of Charles Möeller and Claudio Botelho and was created by Roberto Medina. Zé Ricardo is the musical director and composed the soundtrack, which was recorded by the orchestra of Heliópolis.
“I came to see Coldplay, but I like theater and, when we got there early, I got interested. I thought it was really cool, because there is a lot: music, theater, body expression, “said chemical engineer Leandro Macedo, 29, immediately after attending the first session of the day.
