More than a rapper of general attacks on the ‘system’ or MPB of poetic resistance, the artist gives the name and surname of what he wants to fight
A notch higher in the boiling point that has fried his lyrics more and more since the time of the record state of poetryin 2018, Chico Cesar publishes the most direct song of all those that have been sung as a sign of repudiation of President Jair Bolsonaro and his most extreme followers. Bolsomini, the song opens like this: “The Bolsomini are demons / who came out of hell / straight into the sect to be a hidden friend with Satan in an apartment building”. It is not a long song, but an intense one, and it blends the essence of its central characters, the bolsominion, in every verse. “The Bolsomini are ashamed / Who grazed absently / Modest whiskey / Horror at the party / And learned laughter”. Until the refrain arrives: “The bag without values / The broken bodies without a soul / The blood of a cockroach and the anger of all humanity that does not want to be saved”.

But technically, what would a “bolsominio”? Although there is still no cataloging with the largest dictionaries in the country, the term can be found on Wikipedia. There he says it’s a “pejorative name, used by opponents of the current president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, to refer to a segment of supporters.” But he goes on to say: “The bolsominions are described as hardline and reactionary people of the far right who are skilled in military intervention to solve problems related to public health, education, security. Anti-intellectualism,” reports the free encyclopedia of Internet.
The song is the third single from the album. Love dress, which will be released on September 23 and was first shown in August 2020, causing resistance and protest. Some evangelicals aligned with the president did not like being called “demons of hell”. Even an Evangelical Bolsonarist adviser to João Pessoa, in Paraíba, land of Chico, detested Chico’s “satanic verses” and decreed the fatwa. Eliza Virgínia (Progressistas) cast a repudiation vote of the singer in the City Council.
Chico Cesar has become the strongest artistic voice of the anti-Bolsonaro political resistance in recent years. Strangely, not even the rappers, who have positioned themselves more fiercely in this field, have the same degree of fearlessness in nominal attacks on the headmaster. Opposition rock does not exist and rap speaks of “system”, but it rarely personifies or names a politician. Even the wings of the classical MPB, once important for denouncing extremist governments, were silent or distilled their anguish with poetry. “A samba / How about a samba? / Throw a samba, what do you say? / To scare away the bad weather / To undo the damage / How about a drink? / A relief, a daydream”, sings Chico Buarque, who was once one of the biggest oppositions to the military in the 1970s, on her recent single Um Samba. Gilberto Gil he achieved a sort of “thinking superior to confrontation” and Caetano, as shown on the Meu Coco album, did not go to the head. Or not for this front.
Now, almost only among the most prominent artists, Chico doubles up. Look what he had already said in reggae calculationfrom the album Love is a revolutionary act2019: “Damned dogs of fascism / Slobbering and chattering their teeth / The snake comes out of the egg / Rotten fruit of cynicism …” humans to grind / And love is not for us / But we have a stone to throw / The fireball is in the air / Fire on the fascists / Fire, Jah! “” Fire on the fascists “has become a phrase repeated in many places.
A year before Bolsonaro came to power, but with the country trying to prepare, in 2018 Chico sang King of agribusinessfrom the disc state of poetry2018: “O owners of agrobis / O king of agribusiness / O food producers with poison / You who increase your possession every year / And who pollute every inch of land / And that everyone has a large estate / And who mistreat and destroy the environment / From each of your minds I have looked deep within / And I have seen how much each, deep down, lies. “
