A series of 1962 performances by Barbra Streisand in a Manhattan nightclub before he became a superstar it was remastered and will be released in November.
Barbra Streisand – Live at Bon Soir brings three-night songs to Bon Soir nightclub in Greenwich Village. The singer-actress sessions led to her first record deal. Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings announced on Friday that the remastered sessions would be released on November 4th.
The performances were to become Streisand’s debut album, but many of the songs were remade as studio recordings and released as his debut album. Streisand kept the recordings in his personal collection and approved the release after engineer Jochem Van der Saag used modern technology to improve quality, according to a press release.
The disco acoustics were not made for professional recordings, but modern techniques have allowed Van der Saag to separate Streisand’s voice from the sounds of the instrument.
The release will allow listeners to “witness 20-year-old Streisand at the start of her unprecedented career,” the announcement reads.
“I had never been to a club until I sang in one,” Streisand said in a statement, noting that the release comes 60 years after the Bon Soir sessions.
