Let’s Have a Ball Tonight

This soulful ballad with pacifist and celebratory lyrics was included on the album Tim Maia (1975), popularly known as “Tim Maia in English”. An excellent song that shows a little-known side of the soulman.

“Carioca Summer”

Though little remembered, Tim Maia (1977) is one of the artist’s greatest works. The disc anticipated some things that would appear in the successful Tim Maia Disco Club(1979). With an infectious swing, it also has a catchy chorus and precise instrumentation, with Tim interacting with the backing singers.

“Smart Boogie”

the song that opens Reunion(1979) is a partnership of Tim Maia with fellow soulman hyldon. “smart boogie” is blockbuster funk, with an incisive brass section and a nervous, pulsating bass.

“stuttering”

Funk funk, the LP’s high point suffocating(1984), is another swing capable of igniting any party. This is one of many tracks Tim that deserve to be rediscovered.

“Haddock Lobo, Corner with Matoso”

Interesting track from the LP Clouds(1982), “Haddock Lobo, Corner with Matoso” recalls the place in Tijuca where Tim, Roberto Carlos, Erasmus Carlos and others helped kick-start rock music in Brazil in the late 1950s.

“The Great Brazilian Family of Communication (Our Family)”

the LP Tim Maia (1985) isn’t always well-remembered, but it has some pretty interesting stuff, like this track. With a funky swing, Tim recalls masters of Brazilian television communication as get-together, Fausto Silva and Raul Giland colleagues in the music world, such as Roberto Carlos, Jorge Ben Jo and Erasmus Carlos.

“Shine”

The biggest hit of the album Tim Maia (1986) was the swing”From Leme to Pontal”. Among the good tracks on the work, however, is the ballad “Shine”, composition of Irinea Maria Ribeiro and Sueli Correa. The arrangements and keyboards were in charge of the ever-present Lincoln Olivetti.

“New Ice Age”

the disk new ice age (1995) brought several reinterpretations, including bossa nova classics sung in English – “corcovado“(“Quiet Night Of Quiet Stars”), “Meditation“(“meditation”) – and standards of Brazilian music – “Brazilian watercolor“, for example. Tim even re-recorded “Anything goes” (1983), his hit with Sandra de Sa. And among the unreleased songs was the title track, a vintage-sounding swing.

“She is Carioca”

The song is very well known, but this particular version is rarely released. The junction of the voice of Tim Maia with the vocal harmonies of the traditional quartet the cariocas renewed this classic bossa nova written by Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Morais. The track was included on the CD Tim Maia & Os Cariocas: Amigos do Rei(1997).

“Think Of Me (Don’t Treat Me That)”

The latest studio album by Tim Maia he was Child smile, released in 1997, shortly before the artist’s death. The song that opens the work is this romantic, climactic balance with excellent production.
