SPECIAL FOR THE STATE – Giulio Medaglia, Arrigo Barnaba, André Mehmari, José Eduardo Martins, Livio Tragtenberg and the group hesperides are some of the many musicians and researchers who participate in the Gilberto Mendes centenarya real festival of song, cinema, laboratories, panel discussion which begins this Friday, 7, in Santos, and will last until 16, by the poet Flavio Amoreira.
The Guarany Theater, in the historic center of the city, hosts the inauguration – with a recital, on the 7th, by the pianist José Eduardo Martins – and the closing, with listening to Gilberto on the 16th, with the pianist José Eduardo and the Gilberto Mendes Ensemble. In these ten days there will be a real Occupation in Santos. In addition to Guarany, there will be events at the acoustic Praia do Gonzaga (music and dance), the Museum of image and sound, Vila Mathias (film that Gilberto loved, like Sabrina, by Billy Wilder), Cecon Alemoa (narration by the composer ) and at the Teatro Municipal Brás Cubas.
The latter will host the most significant event: the Santos Municipal Symphonic Choir and the Orchestra celebrate the centenary of Gilberto’s birth on the 13th, presenting a sample of the choral-symphonic work. Nailse Machado conducts the choir in emblematic pieces, such as drink coke (on a poem by Décio Pignatari), sinister angel (on a poem by Haroldo de Campos in homage to the 19 landless murdered in 1996 in Eldorado dos Carajás, Pará) and Mom I want to voteparody of the carnival march that invites choirs to engage in the movement Direct now1984. Conductor Luis Gustavo Petri conducts the orchestra in Ponteio, Overture Issa and Last Tango in Vila Parisi, in addition to his world famous work Santos Football Music.
