The singer releases her 10th studio album with 13 songs
EFE – Dreams, fantasies and some nightmares take over midnightthe tenth studio album of Taylor Swiftback on the road of electronic pop: not so much in the direction of a nightclub, but to circulate in the middle of the night along mental avenues between the fog and the glare of car headlights towards a sunrise on the beach.
The album was released this morning around the world in great secrecy, with no warning other than the release date and some of its sources of inspiration, basically sleepless nights (hence the title, midnight) or self-sabotaged “fantasizing about revenge”.
Taylor also announced the names of the 13 songs, their composers (on all of them she appears as lead author) and the existence of a collaboration with Lana Del Rey (Snow on the beach) which had already been hypothesized by his followers because they both became artists collaborating with the same producer, Jack Antonoff, with whom he repeats here in a work full of small details.
The secrecy of this release, which on the other hand shows the total confidence in its performance, constitutes an anomaly in the current market, which today tries to squeeze the desire of the followers of new material with a thread expanded over time, with many “singles” “before the release of the album to maximize the number of plays of all of them on digital platforms.
Faced with these routines, Rapid has not yet released an official single that allows him to trace the style of midnight: he insisted on the “indie” and intimate sound of his latest LPs, folklore (2020) and always (2020), or he would return to the pop field which also brought him so much joy 1989 (2014) or lover (2019)?
It can be said that this time he chose the middle way. Compared to the organic and “folkie” component of his two previous releases, here the production of synthesizers and the digital treatment of the voices abound, but without losing a dreamy aura and a certain air of unreality.
It is as if, driven by insomnia, the interpreter of cardigan decided to go out with his car in the middle of the night and, instead of getting lost in the mountain roads, this time he chose to head towards that beach that evokes in Snow On The Beach together with Lana del Rey, whose collaboration here is limited to being an immaterial presence, like the choir of a protective spirit.

This search for atmosphere is constant and above all recognizable on pieces such as the remarkable Brown or Vigilant shitis in sort of a well-known Swift streak for revenge bad blood or reputation, although this time served in cold blood. “I don’t start anything / But I can tell you how it ends / Don’t be sad, avenge / On weekends I don’t dress for friends / Lately I do it for revenge”, he sings in his face of doubt about the recipient of this revenge, in the form of music. Maybe Scooter Braun, the man for whom she felt compelled to re-record much of her discography?
On the other hand, this album also offers lighter compositions that refer to another well-known aspect, that of the 80s to which he addressed in 1989, as in the case of the opening with Mist of lavender or anti herowhich will be the official single.
As a curiosity, it is worth noting that, among the co-authors of the songs, in addition to Lana Del Rey and Jack Antonoff, whose name appears on most of them, the actress Zöe Kravitz (in karma And Mist of lavender) also appears, as does Joe Alwyn (Sweet Nothing), his partner for six years and with whom he composed pieces such as exile in the past.
We should also highlight the successful songwriter’s synthesis work, like All too good and it’s been over 10 minutes since midnight and its 13 tracks are released in under 45 minutes, making it one of their shorter albums. Along with the release of the album, Rapid must publish the video clip of anti hero this Friday and make an announcement that, according to some sources, could be linked to a major international tour in 2023, which would mean his return to the stage after 5 years.
