Singer Taylor Swift released the video for “Bejeweled” this Tuesday (25/10), a song from her latest album, “Midnights”. Directed by the singer herself, the clip features a new version of the classic Cinderella story, in which Swift plays the “Cinderella cat”, while her sisters are played by Alana Haim, Danielle Haim and Este Haim, of the band Haim (all seen in the movie). “Licorice Pizza”, with Alana), and the stepmother is played by Laura Dern (“Marriage Story”).
At the beginning of the clip, Swift appears rubbing the vomit of “Lady Este” (Este Haim). Her stepmother and sisters antagonize her, until she Swift transforms into a starfield made of diamonds. After that, she ignores Prince Charming (Jack Antonoff, producer of the album) to dance in a giant glass of champagne accompanied by the Fairy Godmother, played by burlesque icon Dita Von Teese. Pat McGrath, one of the most famous makeup artists in the world, also makes a cameo in the clip.
In an interview with “The Tonight Show”, Swift said there is “a psychotic amount” of Easter eggs in the clip. “We have a PDF file for the Easter eggs in this video, because there are so many that we can’t keep up.”
In contrast to the previous clip, “Anti-Hero”, “Bejeweled” addresses the topic of self-confidence. It’s a song about breakup, or near breakup, but it’s also a happy song, highlighting the electronic influence of the new album.
“Midnights” has already sold 1.2 million units after just three days, with nearly half a million copies sold on vinyl.
