Cleo Pires tackles fake news that traumatized her in the music video

Actress and singer Cleo Pires, or simply Cleo as she prefers, has released the clip for a new song, “Everybody I Loved Already Made Me Cry,” which addresses a sensitive moment in her life.

The video is her answer, after years of silence, to an old fake news: that her mother, the actress GlĂłria Pires, caught her in bed with her stepfather, the musician Orlando Morais. In the stylized production, she assumes this lie hurts and makes her cry, while she demonstrates the happiness of those who spread cruelty and suffering.

The sensationalist rumor dates back to 1998, when Cleo was just 15 and found herself on the cover of newspapers and magazines because of this lie. The artist’s family filed a lawsuit against the author of the lie, she won the case and decided to live in the United States for a while until the matter calmed down. But lately she talks little about it.

Now 40, Cleo has set out to revisit trauma through art.

“Everyone I’ve Loved Made Me Cry” tells the story of a woman who goes to trial after being accused of breaking moral rules. She appears to be judged by a crowd and she cries, entitled to a collected tear to reward the haters.

The song also shares the title of Cleo’s first book, released this year, and is part of the first album of her music career, which began five years ago with the “Jungle Kid” EP. Currently being finalized, the album will be released in 2023.
