Upon completion of his sentence, the former member of the K-pop group EXO will be deported from China
Chinese-Canadian singer and actor Chris Wua major Chinese star, was sentenced to 13 years in prison after being found guilty of rape, a Chinese court announced on Friday, in a case that caused scandal at the Asian giant.
The 32-year-old artist was sentenced to “11 years and 6 months in prison for rape,” the Chaoyang District Court in Beijing said, adding that “he was also sentenced to a prison sentence of 1 year and 10 months for the crime to find people for the purpose of committing adultery.”
At the end of the sentence he will be expelled from China, the sentence also indicates.
A Canadian of Chinese descent, Kris Wu was a member of the kpop EXO🇧🇷 He left the band in 2014 to pursue a solo career as an actor, singer and model.
Last year he was accused of rape by a 19-year-old Chinese schoolgirl when he was 17.
After the scandal, brands such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, L’Oréal and Porsche, of which he was an ambassador, suspended their collaboration with the singer.
Subsequently, other victims testified online to accuse Wu’s team of predatory behavior, including inviting them to karaoke parties.
These allegations have sparked a movement #Me too in China, but the trend has since stalled. To avoid protests, internet censors quickly blocked “hashtags” and keywords referring to cases of sexual harassment on social networks.
