Day Limnsmade every fan’s dream come true last September, when she was invited to open her idol’s show, Avril Lavigne, during his visit to São Paulo. The encounter – and the difficulty of establishing closer contact with the Canadian singer – was the subject of the first episode of Who Is Your Idol?new music and entertainment podcast from Rolling Stone Brazil🇧🇷
“I didn’t have that expectation. [de um encontro mais próximo] all because I’ve been a fan for a long time and know my idol’s type, she doesn’t have great stories with fans”, says Day. In the podcast, she even tells how this relationship began, in the distant 2002.

Day, who had never been able to watch a concert of her idol up close, ended up taking the winning ticket in 2022, when she received a call from her manager two days before the Canadian’s visit to São Paulo, confirming that she would be the opening act for Abril at Espaço Unimed, on the 7th of September: “I had no voice, but I couldn’t stop screaming”.
On the podcast, Day detailed how the meeting went behind the scenes:
“I arrived very calm, they gave us our Avril Lavigne Tour sticker – which I already lost, I got angry [risos]🇧🇷 And then I arrived, took a photo, posted it in stories, excited. And then I went close to the stage and someone comes saying ‘guys, for the love of god, delete everything you posted, you can’t post the stage, you can’t post the backstage, or the credential, or walk around too much out here’ “
Day continues: “Then she arrived with the armored car, inside the building, opened the dressing room door and I didn’t even see her go in. Armored really, just the way I imagined. What a shame! [risos]🇧🇷

According to Day, Avril’s security ensured that the singer had no contact with anyone outside the production. But that didn’t stop her from trying — and getting a brief nod from the idol:
“But I was there and I was thinking, ‘Guys, let’s try something’. And then, when she was about to go on stage, they told us to stop emptying the dressing rooms at that moment. create dissatisfaction with the girl’s team, I had to be professional. But then my team doesn’t help me to be so professional, everyone knew that I really wanted to meet her. Then we turned off the light and pretended to go out, we stayed hidden in the dressing room. I didn’t even know if I could be counting this [risos]🇧🇷 I had already opened the show, which was just as well, otherwise I would have been expelled from there. Then when we decided to leave, she was also leaving hers, so my partner and I stayed outside, at the door, and we waited for her to pass. When she passed, I could see her passing by. She passed, looked, turned, I was waving. She looked back, waved back, and gave a little smile. I’m nearsighted and at that time I was very sad to be myopic, because I saw her face a little blurry. Then they told me: ‘she smiled at you!’ And I just jumped up on my partner, yelled, ‘she smiled at me, she knows who I am, she looked me in the face!'”
