The New York Times – Lisa Marie Presley who, as the only child of Elvis Presleykept her famous last name in the media spotlight with four marriages and three albums of her own, died Thursday at age 54 after being rushed to a California hospital after suffering cardiac arrest.

She was briefly married to Michael Jacksonand even more briefly with the actor Nicolas Cage. Here’s some what Lisa, owner of the property graceland of her father in Memphis, Tennessee, she said of navigating her birthright to stardom and fame:

Your father

Lisa, who was 9 when her father died of a heart attack in 1977 at age 42, once recalled how he flew her on a private jet to Idaho so she could see snow for the first time. They spent there half an hour and returned to go home.

“He was such an amazing presence, not just as an artist, but just as a person,” she once said The New York Times. “Yes, he sang well and yes, the songs were great, but that was him coming out in the music. He was larger than life.”

In an interview with Larry Kingshe said her father’s soul emerged in her voice.

“Everything you saw and people appreciated about him was that or more behind the scenes, and there was nothing contrived or preconceived about anything he did or didn’t do,” Lisa said. “And I think people realize that genuineness, and that doesn’t happen very often anymore.”

Your music

Lisa Presley has said she was reluctant to lean on her father’s legacy when she began her music career. But she was belittled by her own label, responsible for her personal work. Lights off – “Someone turned off the lights in Memphis. That’s where my family was buried and disappeared,” says their debut single, in 2003.

“I was just trying not to be predictable and refer to my heritage from the beginning,” he told al Times. “My concern was that it would go against everything I’m trying to do now, which is create my fingerprint.”

Lisa had her first album, To whom It May Concernfollowed by Now what (2005) and Storm and Grace (2012).

In his interview with King, he described the title track of Now what as “representative of me in that he’s outwardly flippant and a bit cheeky and has an attitude”.

“But still, if you listen closely to the song,” he continued, “you’ll realize that it’s very vulnerable and to some extent intriguing.”

Your relationships

Of Presley’s four marriages, it was the one to jackson that charmed the tabloids. After a secret ceremony in the Dominican Republic, they began their honeymoon trump tower.

During their two-year marriage, Presley told Diane Sawyer that the rumors that the affair was a publicity stunt were false. At the time, Jackson was facing allegations that he molested a 13-year-old boy.
