“Lift Every Voice and Sing” was written in 1900 by James Weldon JohnsonWhile J. Rosamond Johnson was responsible for the musical part. The song has the situation of African Americans in the late 19th century as its context. The lyrics bring a request for fidelity and freedom.
Since its creation, the song has been very popular among black communities, and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) considers it the “black national anthem” since 1917. Big names in the industry have sung the track on some occasions, such as Beyonce.
