Neurologist Explains One-Minute Test to Identify Stroke

Neurologist and reflexotherapist Milyausha Mamadalieva said a simple test taking roughly one minute can help identify a stroke early. In an interview with Gazeta.Ru, she noted that strokes are occurring more frequently among young people as well as older adults.

Mamadalieva warned that initial symptoms in younger patients are often mistaken for fatigue or a migraine. If a stroke is suspected, she recommended checking the person's gait and vision, asking them to smile, raising both arms, and pronouncing a simple phrase.

She emphasized that if even one of these signs is present, people should immediately call emergency services at 103 or 112. It is vital to note the exact time symptoms began because medical personnel use that timeframe to decide their treatment strategy.

Stroke risk factors

Mamadalieva listed several factors that increase stroke risk, including cardiac rhythm disorders, congenital vascular abnormalities, a tendency for blood clot formation, smoking, alcohol abuse, chronic sleep deprivation, and the uncontrolled use of hormonal drugs. She added that seeking medical help cannot be delayed because every minute counts.

Therapist Zoe Williams previously described stroke symptoms in young people, stating that an attack may involve slurred speech, an unsteady gait, weakness in one arm, or distortion of the mouth or eyes.
