Actress Nicola Peltz Beckham will receive a rising star award at The Kineo Awards during the Venice Film Festival next weekend in Venice, Italy.
The award citation notes that the 31-year-old star actually began her acting career as a child 20 years ago. The Kineo Awards, celebrating their 25th anniversary, stated that "in recent years, the American actress, screenwriter and producer has attracted growing international attention through increasingly multifaceted roles, both in front of and behind the camera."
Nicola is the daughter of billionaire Nelson Peltz. Her acting resumé includes roles in The Last Airbender, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bates Motel, Holidate, Welcome to Chippendales, and The Beauty. She also recently wrote, directed, and starred in the self-funded movie Lola.
The ceremony is set to take place on September 5 at Casa Cinema Giovani in Venice. President Rosetta Sannelli of the Kinéo Cultural Association conceived the awards, which launched in 2002. Although the event takes place during the annual Venice Film Festival, which welcomes A-listers every year, it has no direct ties to the main international gathering.
New indie drama Prima
Nicola is being honoured alongside screen icon Faye Dunaway, who co-stars in Peltz Beckham's new self-funded film Prima. Legendary actress and Oscar winner Dunaway will receive a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony.
Peltz Beckham has been working on the indie drama Prima since January, though the film does not yet have an official release date. The movie co-stars Jack Huston, Mira Sorvino, and Betty Gabriel alongside Dunaway and Peltz Beckham. Luca and Alessandro Morelli, known professionally as the Morelli Brothers, directed the project as their feature debut.
Peltz Beckham stars as Margo, a dedicated prima ballerina facing life-altering decisions as modern changes disrupt her ballet company. In May, the actress and her family attended a private Los Angeles screening for the film hosted by East West Bank CEO Dominic Ng. Afterwards, Peltz Beckham thanked supporters and said their backing of independent film meant "more than I can express."
Ballet training and online row
The movie has also been in the spotlight after Peltz Beckham sparked concern over her drastic weight loss while preparing for her starring role as Margo. To fully embody her ballerina character, she committed to a strict diet and intensive training regimen, completing four months of gruelling ballerina training that saw her drop to under 100 pounds (45kg).
Just this week, her husband Brooklyn Beckham defended her in an online row regarding her weight. The 27-year-old aspiring chef and hot sauce entrepreneur hit back in the comments section of his latest Instagram cookery tutorial.
After a follower asked, "Do you comment on everyone who is concerned about your wife and how sickly she looks? She puts herself out there, feed her," Beckham replied: "Don't ever talk about my wife. She's absolutely beautiful and you should never comment on a woman's body. It's disgraceful."
Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Beckham have been married since 2022 and renewed their vows last year following an ongoing feud with his family.
