Actor Nikos Kalogeropoulos will be laid to rest on Wednesday, August 12, at noon at the First Cemetery of Athens, where a civil funeral will be held in line with his own wishes.

His family announced the farewell would take place as he had requested, and asked that instead of flowers, mourners donate to "The Actor's Home," providing an Alpha Bank account for contributions.

Illness and career

Kalogeropoulos died on Sunday, August 9, at age 74 at the hospital in Kyparissia, following health problems. He was born on August 1, 1952, in Filiatra and kept close ties to the Messinia region throughout his life.

After studying acting in Athens, he became widely known through the television adaptation of "Christ Recrucified." His film work included "Mathe Paidi Mou Grammata," "Rebetiko" and "Loufa kai Parallagi," and he also starred in the popular series "Camping." He won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival for "Mathe Paidi Mou Grammata" and Best Actor for "Loufa kai Parallagi." He also worked as a director, screenwriter, poet and songwriter.
