In his speech, Wyle said he needed to recognize the work of his fellow nominees, calling their work inspiring and saying he watches and learns from them, singling out Gary Oldman.
Tribute to Gary Oldman
Wyle was nominated alongside Oldman, who was up for his role in Apple TV+'s "Slow Horses." Wyle said he did not know of any actor his age who had not looked at "Prick Up Your Ears" and "Sid and Nancy" and thought that was the level he wanted to reach one day in his own career. Both films are among Oldman's earliest starring roles, released in 1987, and helped establish him as one of his generation's most acclaimed actors.
A 'Hollywood kid'
Wyle, who grew up in Los Angeles, described himself as a "Hollywood kid" who was raised in front of the television. He said cinemas were his place of worship, adding that acting was all he had ever wanted to do and that it was the only club he had ever wanted to join. He thanked the Television Academy for accepting him.
Life after 'ER'
Wyle, previously known for his role on the medical drama "ER," stars in and executive produces "The Pitt," in which he plays Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. The role marks a return to medical drama for the actor decades after "ER" made him a household name.
'The Pitt' dominates the night
"The Pitt" entered the ceremony as the most nominated series of the night, with 25 nominations in total. The show had already picked up five trophies at the 2026 Emmy Creative Arts Awards, including the award for Guest Actor, won by Ernest Haden Jr.
