The second season of Outlander: Blood of My Blood will premiere on September 19 on Movistar Plus+, as a newly released trailer shows the 1715 Jacobite rising threatening the lives of its four main characters. The streaming platform will release new episodes of the prequel series on a weekly basis.
The new trailer highlights how the outbreak of war in 18th-century Scotland forces Highland clans to take sides, placing heavy strain on political, family, and personal relationships.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is the prequel series to Outlander, the long-running historical drama centered on time-traveling 20th-century nurse Claire Randall and 18th-century Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser. Movistar Plus+ is Spain's major subscription television and streaming service owned by Telefonica.
The Jacobite risings were a series of military conflicts across the British Isles between the late 17th century and 1746, fought by supporters of the exiled Stuart dynasty in an effort to reclaim the throne. While the original Outlander series focused on the lead-up to and aftermath of the famous 1745 rebellion, the prequel moves back to the earlier rising of 1715, depicting a deeply divided Scotland decades before.
War splits the Fraser and MacKenzie families
The first season of the prequel established the twin romances of Henry and Julia Beauchamp, the parents of Claire, alongside Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, the parents of Jamie. Although both couples overcame initial obstacles to stay together, the season finale left them in difficult positions that worsen as conflict erupts.
In the upcoming episodes, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie are forced to prioritize family obligations and clan loyalties over their personal desires. When burning crosses signal the start of the Jacobite rising, Brian must return to Castle Leathers with his cousin Murtagh to fight under the command of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat.
At the same time, Ellen returns to Castle Leoch, where her brothers Colum and Dougal MacKenzie clash over how their clan should respond to the rising.
Time travel separation and returning cast
Meanwhile, Henry and Julia Beauchamp face another painful separation after a failed attempt to return to their original era. Julia remains stranded in 18th-century Scotland with her infant baby, while Henry is transported back to the 20th century, where he must navigate the consequences of revealing details about his time travel experiences.
According to the trailer, finding a path back to their families will prove to be only part of the struggle for all four lead characters as political decisions dictate their fates.
The second season features the return of lead cast members Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp, Hermione Corfield as Julia Beauchamp, Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser, and Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie. Also returning are Tony Curran as Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, Seamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie, Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie, and Rory Alexander as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser.
