Cinemas in Ukraine welcome four new releases this week, led by the animated comedy "PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie," Eli Roth's horror film "Ice Cream Man," the action thriller "Motor City" starring Alan Ritchson, and the crime drama "No Ordinary Heist." Meanwhile, the sci-fi thriller "The Last House," starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, is set to premiere on Netflix.
PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie
In the latest instalment of the hit franchise, the PAW Patrol pups crash-land on an uncharted tropical island inhabited by dinosaurs after their ship is caught in a mysterious storm. There they meet Rex, a dog who has lived on the island for years and become an expert on all things dinosaur-related.
Meanwhile, the team's sworn enemy, Mayor Humdinger, brazenly mines the island's natural resources and accidentally triggers the eruption of a massive dormant volcano. The pups find themselves at the centre of a series of rescue missions of dinosaur-sized proportions, bigger than any they have faced before, and must stop Humdinger before all life on the island is threatened with extinction.
The film was directed by Canadian animator Cal Brunker, who also helmed the two previous instalments of the PAW Patrol franchise. It had its world premiere in mid-July 2026 in Japan. The film currently holds a rating of 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb.
Ice Cream Man
The horror film is set in an idyllic, sun-baked small town where a brightly coloured ice cream van suddenly arrives one day, immediately drawing a queue of local children. But as soon as the children taste the ice cream, they turn into small, ruthless and remarkably inventive killers.
The role of the ice cream man is played by Ari Millen, known for "Orphan Black: Echo" and "12 Days." The film was directed by Eli Roth, a well-known figure in the horror genre whose credits include "Hostel," "Cabin Fever," "Thanksgiving" and "Borderlands."
Early reviews have not been kind. The film currently holds just 25% approval from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, while Metacritic gives it a score of 40 out of 100, which the site classifies as "mixed or average reviews."
Motor City
Set in Detroit in the 1970s, the film follows former Army Ranger Johnny Miller, who finally finds the love of his life and leaves his dangerous past behind. But when a powerful crime boss kidnaps his fiancee and frames Miller for a crime he did not commit, sending him to prison, the law stops mattering. Breaking free, Miller launches a ruthless war against those who destroyed his life.
The cast includes Alan Ritchson ("The Machine," the "Reacher" and "Titans" series), Shailene Woodley (the "Divergent" franchise, "The Fault in Our Stars," "Misanthrope," "Ferrari"), Ben Foster ("X-Men: The Last Stand," "3:10 to Yuma," "The Mechanic," "Warcraft"), and Pablo Schreiber ("13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi," the "Orange Is the New Black," "American Gods" and "Halo" series).
The film was directed by American filmmaker Potsy Ponciroli ("Old Henry," "Greedy People"). "Motor City" had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in autumn 2025.
The film currently holds a rating of 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 62% approval rating from critics and 67% from audiences. On Metacritic, critics gave it a score of 63 out of 100, described as "generally favourable reviews," while the general audience score stands at 4.8 out of 10, described as "mixed or average reviews."
No Ordinary Heist
Based on real events, the film tells the story of the largest cash robbery carried out by a gang that never even entered the bank. Just days before Christmas, armed criminals take hostage the wife and mother of two colleagues who do not get along at work.
Rather than break into the bank themselves, the criminals issue an ultimatum: the two employees must rob their own employer and empty the bank's vaults of 26.5 million pounds. If either man fails or breaks the rules, the other's family member will be killed.
The lead role is played by Eddie Marsan ("Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw," "The Gentlemen," "Wrath of Man," "Amy Winehouse: Back to Black"). The film currently holds a rating of 5.7 out of 10 on IMDb.
The Last House
The story follows a family that mysteriously becomes trapped inside their own home. To survive, they must stick together even as their supplies dwindle and the mysterious force holding them refuses to relent.
The film stars Greta Lee ("Past Lives," "Tron: Ares," "The Morning Show") and Wagner Moura ("Rebel Ridge," "The Secret Agent," "Narcos"). It was directed by French filmmaker Louis Leterrier ("Transporter," "Now You See Me," "Fast X," "Lupin"). "The Last House" is scheduled to become available on Netflix from 7 August 2026.
Also arriving this week
Beyond the new film releases, several notable series are also in the spotlight this week. Paramount+ launched the third season of the spy thriller "Special Ops: Lioness," starring Zoe Saldana, while Apple TV+ is set to premiere the long-awaited fourth season of the sports comedy "Ted Lasso." Netflix is releasing new episodes of its adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's classic novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude," and FX is launching a new Ryan Murphy project titled "Wreckage."
