Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton remains hospitalized in Florida after a self-inflicted knife incident on TikTok, leaving him severely injured and separated from his children.
The 48-year-old internet personality, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, has been unable to see his three young children in person since his August 4 hospitalization due to extensive physical disfigurement across his face and body.
Hilton rose to prominence in the mid-2000s as one of Hollywood's most widely read gossip columnists, launching his brand through his self-titled celebrity blog. He was taken into custody earlier this month under Florida's Baker Act, a state statute that authorizes the temporary involuntary detention and emergency evaluation of individuals experiencing a severe mental health crisis.
The emergency intervention followed a terrifying 15-minute TikTok video stream in which a naked and bloodied Hilton repeatedly inflicted self-harm with a large butcher's knife. The social media platform terminated the live broadcast after approximately 15 minutes, and law enforcement officers arrived at the scene shortly afterward. Hilton was subsequently transferred to an inpatient facility, where he has been denied access to both his mobile phone and the internet.
Hospitalization and legal custody rulings
Insiders report that Hilton is growing increasingly impatient with his prolonged isolation at the undisclosed facility, having spoken to his children solely over the telephone. His mother, Teresita, has been granted temporary custody of his three children, Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, who reside at his Miami home.
The children were present inside the Miami residence when the violent incident took place on August 4. Hilton's sister, Barbara, who was also at the home, quickly escorted the three children outside to safety before emergency services arrived. It remains unclear what the children may have seen before being rushed outside, but family members said they are committed to avoiding any potential further distress.
