Former Disney Channel star Raven-Symone has expressed deep regret over undergoing a breast reduction operation at the age of 15, revealing that the procedure was hastily done before she had finished puberty. The 40-year-old actress and television presenter disclosed that she felt pressured into cosmetic surgery as a teenager after an adult told her it was necessary to secure acting roles.
Speaking on the podcast Allure Perspectives, the former co-host of The View reflected on the surgery, stating that she was simply too young to undergo such a major operation. She admitted that while the aesthetic results remain acceptable, she wishes she had possessed the strength to refuse the procedure until her body had fully matured.
"I mean, they still look good, but it was hastily done," Raven-Symone explained during her podcast appearance. "I should have done it after puberty. I wish I was stronger to say no."
Cosmetic breast reduction, known medically as reduction mammoplasty, involves removing excess tissue, fat, and skin to alter breast size and shape. Medical guidelines generally recommend that younger patients wait until breast tissue development has completely stopped following puberty before undergoing cosmetic surgical procedures.
Pressure and early surgical procedures
The Atlanta native previously revealed that her first cosmetic operation was part of a double procedure that included liposuction alongside breast reduction. Speaking on her podcast The Best Podcast Ever in 2023, she recalled how her father, Christopher B Pearlman, strongly suggested that she undergo breast reduction surgery.
When her father asked if there was anything else she wanted so she would not feel bad, Raven-Symone asked for liposuction in the hope that it would stop people from calling her fat. She described the combined procedure as a twofer, recalling the severe pain and confusion of experiencing such extensive surgery at such a young age.
"So I got a twofer," the actress recalled of the double procedure. "It was just a mess, just being that young and the pain of it all."
Liposuction is a body-contouring procedure that uses suction to remove excess fat deposits from targeted areas of the body. When performed on adolescents alongside breast reduction, the extensive surgical intervention requires general anesthesia, which carries elevated medical risks for developing bodies.

Surgical complications and physical scarring
In December 2024, during an episode of her subsequent podcast Tea Time, Raven-Symone disclosed that she suffered serious medical complications during the operation. She revealed that the anesthesia caused her to suffer a seizure upon waking up from the procedure when she was 15 years old.
The operation also left her with lasting physical consequences, including permanent scar tissue. Following the initial surgery, she experienced weight gain and was forced to undergo a follow-up procedure because others felt her breasts remained too large.
"I have scars," the Cheetah Girls star divulged on the podcast. "I still have scar tissue to this day. And I gained weight after and had to, like, go back for a quick little, like, get a little bit more out cause they were still too big for others' feelings."
Two years prior to her latest comments, she first publicly disclosed the traumatic anesthesia-induced seizure she suffered during the underage operation. Despite the trauma, she recalled having no personal misgivings about her natural body as a teenager, laughing as she noted that her triple D chest size made her feel confident at the time.
"Oh girl, I got into anything! I was first in line," she shared with a laugh, joking that her figure gave her leverage. "Push these little babies up, they get you anywhere. These triple Ds were popping."

Child stardom and industry body shaming
Raven-Symone began her career in entertainment at just three years old, rising to national fame on NBC's hit family sitcom The Cosby Show. The popular 1980s television series starred comedian Bill Cosby as patriarch Cliff Huxtable, with Raven-Symone playing his young step-granddaughter Olivia Kendall.
At age 17, two years after her initial breast reduction surgery, she landed her defining lead role as psychic teenager Raven Baxter on the Disney Channel sitcom That's So Raven. Disney Channel, owned by The Walt Disney Company, aired the hit series from 2003 until 2007, cementing her position as one of the network's top teen stars.
She also achieved musical success with The Cheetah Girls, a Disney Channel franchise about a female pop group that released soundtrack albums and embarked on nationwide concert tours. However, despite her professional success, she faced constant public criticism regarding her body image and weight throughout her teenage years.
In a 2017 interview with People magazine, she reflected on the harsh body shaming she endured during her musical career. She recalled being told that she was too big to perform an hour and a half concert and that critics questioned how she could dance at her size, though she proudly noted that she still performed the shows regardless.
The actress admitted that she was only 10 percent comfortable with her figure back in the day of quote-unquote Raven-Symone. However, that figure has now risen to 80 percent as she embraces her appearance in adulthood.

Body positivity and health journey
Raven-Symone expressed gratitude for the modern body positivity movement, describing it as a beautiful culture of body acceptance that was unavailable to her when she was growing up in the spotlight. In recent years, she has also taken steps to transform her physical health alongside her wife, Miranda Maday.
During a 2022 appearance on the ABC daytime talk show The View, where she previously served as a regular co-host alongside a panel of commentators, she revealed that she had lost 40 pounds. She credited her weight loss to her wife's guidance, love, and cooking skills, which helped her kick what she described as the addictive drug of sugar.
The previous year, she revealed on Good Morning America that she was maintaining a low-carb diet paired with intermittent fasting. Her routine involved fasting for 14 hours between dinner and breakfast to support her overall health goals.
Raven-Symone publicly came out as a lesbian in 2013. Two years later, in 2015, she met Miranda Maday at a gay bar in West Hollywood, California, a city renowned for its LGBTQ+ culture and nightlife. The couple married in 2020 and have since launched several media projects together.
The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Raven-Symone for further comment regarding her recent statements.
