A superb Tito Valverde gives a lesson on how to stand out from the crowd without outshining anyone in Víctor García León’s comedy ‘¡Vaya vacaciones!’
It gives the impression that a filmmaker as personal as Víctor García León (‘Go away from me’, ‘The Europeans’) does not quite fit into a proposal like this comedy, aimed at the general public. The filmmaker, however, easily brings to the screen a script by Manuel Burque and Josep Gatell (‘Operación Camarón’), a less flamboyant and provocative text than his previous ones, and in which grandparents are incorporated by their own right into the new golden age enjoyed by family cinema in Spain; in line with recent international titles such as ‘At war with my grandfather’ (Tim Hill, 2020).
The magnificent opening credits introduce the viewer in a masterful way to the blind alley into which their grandchildren have led the leading couple. García León once again demonstrates his mastery in directing actors. all magnificent. Above all, a superb Tito Valverde who gives a lesson on how to stand out from the group without overshadowing anyone. The appearance of Ramón Barea as a grandfather who knows everything is very funny.
For families with busy parents, restless children and generous grandparents
The best: a Tito Valverde worthy of winning a Goya.
The worst: the desire to always remain politically correct.
