Criticism of ‘The Eight Mountains’, an exciting story of friendship

There are loves that are bigger than life. This is what happens in The Eight Mountains, but it is about a love that has nothing to do with romanticism, but with the purest friendship, the one that is established between two children during their childhood and that will be forged in adulthood. . Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch adapt Paolo Cognetti’s novel of the same title in which many topics are discussed, including the concept of nature, too often reduced to a stereotype, as well as the forging of one’s own identity.

The directors adapt to the telluric impulses of a story in which the geographical environment of the Italian Alps stands almost like a mythological terrain through the life journeys of two children, later men, from different social backgrounds.
