The film was one of the great successes of the indie circuit last year with which Michael Sarnoski makes his directorial debut, succeeding John Krasinski in the third installment of ‘A Quiet Place’
In his directorial debut, Michael Sarnoski takes a starting point that, without knowing anything, is familiar to us – a man we know little or nothing about loses his pet, a narrative trigger that, in the hands of a couple of specialists in action cinema like Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, becomes a spooky orgy, a storm of violence at the service of Keanu Reeves like John Wick was– to build a moving, intimate and careful reflection on loss, mourning and reckoning, yes, but with oneself.
leaning on a huge Nicolas Cage, confirming with his subtle, contained but at the same time intense performance his bestial talent as an actor and the nose to unearth interpretive truffles in recent years (there are ‘Mandy’ or ‘Color Out of Space’ to prove it), ‘Pig’, with its cold and broken staging or its commitment to a calm and contemplative rhythm, shows that there is no dish more frozen or deconstructed than a broken and lost soul. An interesting debut and a name to keep track of.
For exquisite palates of contained dramas and broken hearts
The best: Cage, immense in his scenic minimalism.
The worst: some topics about the most famous culinary scene.
