‘The World’s Worst Neighbor’ Critic, Tom Hanks Sulking

Marc Forster directs Tom Hanks in the version of the Swedish hit ‘A Man Called Ove’, the story of an unsympathetic retiree with a wealth of funds.

Otto is not for nonsense. Curmudgeon, methodical and insanely concerned about order around him, he lives angry with everyone around him. With retirement it seems that the end of everything is irremediable but, to the surprise of this man at war with the world, a jubilant Mexican neighbor will give some meaning to his days with a blow of chaos.

This new American version of a European hit, the Swedish ‘A Man Called Ove’ (Hannes Holm, 2015), includes all the strengths of the first adaptation of Fredrik Backman’s novel, adding to the mix the always great Tom Hanks as the protagonist and enlivening the final result with the luminous Mariana Treviñocapable of stealing prominence from an indisputable star. Marc Forster embraces his main characters to establish a feel-good movie who lacks any other kind of ambition and, possessed by Otto himself, desperate to make ‘The World’s Worst Neighbor’ the product everyone expects it to be. And he does it.

To disconnect in the company of good Tom Hanks, always fit

The best: the unstoppable combo formed by Hanks and Mariana Treviño.

The worst: there is nothing that gets out of the expected script.
