Australian-American rocker Rick Springfield has amazed fans after performing shirtless on stage during a United States concert tour with former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, just days before celebrating his 77th birthday.

A resurfaced video of the music legend whipping off his shirt to showcase his muscular arms and defined upper body while wearing leather trousers went viral this week. Viewers expressed astonishment at his youthful appearance, with many noting that the singer looks half his age.
The musician, who turns 77 on August 23, performed his 1981 chart-topping hit Jessie's Girl during the show. Springfield, who frequently performs topless, has built a reputation for maintaining a remarkably fit physique late into his career.
Social media users reacted enthusiastically to the footage. One fan wrote, "Rick Springfield defies the laws of aging," while another commented, "He eats clean, doesn't drink often or smoke and works out everyday. He's better now in concert than ever!"
Other fans joined in celebrating the star, with one remarking, "He's obviously a vampire. Obviously!" Another joked, "I bet Jessie girl regrets not hooking up with Rick, just saying! He does look good for 77!" Additional fans shared nostalgic comments, describing Springfield as "one of my first loves" and writing, "Ohh dear I still love him so."

Fitness routine and pescatarian diet
Springfield spoke openly in 2023 about how he maintains his sex symbol status in his seventies. In an interview with People magazine, the singer revealed that he works out every day and watches what he eats to stay active.
Springfield explained that he recently hired a personal trainer to guide his workouts. However, he admitted that finding the right dietary routine required trial and error, particularly after attempting a strict vegan diet.
The Affair Of The Heart crooner said that while being vegan made him feel great, it caused him to look "like hell" after losing too much weight. A concerned friend even approached him to ask, "Are you OK?" Prompted by his drastic weight loss, Springfield added fish back into his diet for protein, after which he insisted he has never looked better.

Stage hazards and Australian pub gigs
Springfield has been married to Barbara Porter since 1984, and the couple share two children. Over his decades on stage, the singer has regularly had fans throw bras and underwear at him during performances.
While Springfield once kept a massive collection of underwear thrown onto the stage, he noted that female admirers sending lingerie is far better than what he experienced early in his music career.
Speaking to E! News, the former Zoot guitarist recalled playing pubs across his native Australia in the late 1960s and 1970s, where angry or unruly crowd members would pelt the band with full beer cans.
Without venue bouncers to protect the musicians in those early years, Springfield explained that performers had to rely on their microphone stands or guitars to shield themselves from flying cans.

Early career and rise to fame
Born Richard Lewis Springthorpe in Australia, the musician first rose to prominence as a guitarist for the pop rock group Zoot from 1969 to 1971.
He launched his solo career following the band's breakup, releasing his debut single Speak to the Sky, which reached the top ten in Australia in mid-1971.
Springfield achieved global stardom in 1981 with the release of his signature pop hit Jessie's Girl, which topped the music charts and established him as one of the defining pop rock artists of the decade.
