Ricky Martin has released 'ReVivo', an album that reworks his most iconic number one hits into new versions featuring TINI, Kany García and Christian Nodal, among other artists. The Puerto Rican singer set out to give his classic songs a second life rather than simply looking back on his career.
The album reworks Martin's biggest hits across a wide range of musical styles, including Latin pop, bachata, tropical cumbia and mariachi. The songwriting and identity that turned these tracks into global anthems remain intact, but the arrangements push them into new territory.
Martin is one of Latin music's most enduring stars, having built a career spanning more than three decades that includes some of the genre's best known crossover hits. 'ReVivo' is being framed as proof that his connection to the music and to different generations of listeners remains strong.
Collaborations across generations
For the project, Martin brought in a wide roster of collaborators who represent the current state of Spanish-language music. Carín León, Los Ángeles Azules, TINI, Luan Santana, Grupo Frontera and Christian Nodal all contribute their own distinctive styles to the reworked tracks, creating pairings that cross genres and bring Martin's songs to younger audiences.
Los Ángeles Azules are known for popularizing cumbia sonidera, while Grupo Frontera and Carín León have become leading names in the recent wave of regional Mexican and border music reaching mainstream audiences. TINI, an Argentine singer and actress, and Luan Santana, a major figure in Brazilian sertanejo, extend the album's reach across Latin America.
A duet with Kany García
One of the most intimate moments on the record is a new version of 'Asignatura pendiente', recorded with fellow Puerto Rican artist Kany García. The song was originally written by the Guatemalan singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona and is regarded as one of the more lyrical and emotional pieces in Martin's catalogue.
In this duet, the two singers' voices deepen the song's nostalgic weight, turning it into a reflection on success, missed opportunities in life and memories tied to Puerto Rico.
Bridge to a new album
'ReVivo' is not intended only as a retrospective or a tribute to Martin's past achievements. By bringing his best established hits into genres that are currently popular, the singer allows his older songs to connect with a younger public discovering them for the first time.
The album also arrives while Martin is putting the finishing touches on his next studio album, which will consist entirely of new material. 'ReVivo' functions as a bridge between a tribute to more than three decades of hits and the new musical directions he still plans to explore.
