Somnologist Roman Buzunov says sleep deficit can help treat insomnia by training the body to fall asleep within 15 minutes. Writing on his Instagram account, owned by Meta, an organization recognized as extremist and banned in Russia, Buzunov explained that sleep loss increases natural sleepiness.
According to Buzunov, anyone who fails to fall asleep within 15 minutes of lying in bed should get up, move to another room, and engage in a calm activity such as reading a book. He noted that the morning wake-up time must remain unchanged, even if a person falls asleep later.

Buzunov tells his patients that this sleep deficit serves as a real sleep elixir to help them sleep better the next night. He explained that practicing this routine regularly eliminates the fear of insomnia over time and helps a person fall asleep within 15 minutes.
Adaptability of sleep schedules
The advice follows earlier comments by neurologist Yulia Prokofyeva, who stated that most Russians are neither morning larks nor night owls. She reported that about 60 percent of the population are pigeons, a group that finds it easier to adapt to any routine.
