Rosana to host free solar eclipse event in A Coruña

Spanish singer-songwriter Rosana will host a free outdoor event in A Coruña on August 12 to mark the solar eclipse with music, science and comedy.

The event, called "Let's Star under the ring xRosana", will take place at the Santa Margarita Park between 18:00 and 20:00. The local council has organised the gathering to allow the public to watch the astronomical phenomenon while enjoying performances and scientific commentary.

The afternoon will not follow a conventional running order, but will instead see artists, scientists and the audience interact naturally as the eclipse happens. Entry is free until the park reaches capacity.

Comedian David Amor will open the two-hour event, before handing over to Rosana, who will guide the audience through the afternoon. The singer will be joined by computational astrophysics researcher Xabier Pérez Couto to explain the science behind the eclipse.

Rosana is one of Spain's most successful singer-songwriters, best known for her 1996 debut album Lunas Rotas. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, obscuring the Sun's light.

Science and surprises

Pérez Couto will explain why the eclipse happens and what makes it extraordinary, combining scientific rigour with Amor's comedy to make the subject accessible to the audience.

The Torres de Pascual family will also join the singer on stage to provide an intergenerational perspective on the event. The family, made up of adults and children of different ages, will share how different generations experience the same astronomical event.

Organisers have promised live connections to other locations and surprise appearances throughout the afternoon. Spanish science communicator Javier Santaolalla is among the confirmed guests.

As the eclipse progresses, the scientific discussions and comedy will give way to music. Rosana will close the event by playing a short acoustic set on her guitar for the crowds gathered under the eclipse.

The event aims to bring people together to laugh, discover, listen and sing while watching the sky, organisers said.
