Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has renewed 'Trivial Pursuit' for a second season after the game show's ratings improved on La 2, the channel's secondary network. The program, hosted by Egoitz Txurruka, will remain part of the broadcaster's entertainment lineup next season.
RTVE said the decision reflects a bet on the format that has grown stronger after a more modest start. Casting for the second season has now opened, with the broadcaster seeking new contestants willing to test their knowledge in a show that brings the popular 'Trivial Pursuit' board game to television.
Ratings turnaround on La 2
The show's performance on La 2 was decisive in securing the renewal. 'Trivial Pursuit' closed July with an average of 398,000 viewers and a 3.9% audience share, its second-best monthly figures since it premiered in February.
The format had a colder reception when it first aired on La 1, RTVE's main channel. Since moving to La 2, it has become one of the pillars of the channel's cultural entertainment output, alongside 'Saber y ganar' and 'Cifras y letras', and has built a solid track record as the lead-in show to 'Cifras y letras'.

New production company
The main change for the second season will be behind the scenes, as Stratos Studios takes over production from Satisfaction Iberia. Filming for the new episodes is due to begin shortly, and the show will keep its established format.
Contestants will continue to answer questions across six categories: geography, sports and leisure, entertainment, history, science and nature, and art and literature. Players must collect all six wedges to reach the centre of the giant game board.
The winner of each episode also advances to a final round in which they can compete for the show's jackpot.

A simple, recognisable format
RTVE credits the show's straightforward, knowledge-based format for helping it find its footing on La 2 and earn a second run. The renewal confirms a bet on the format that has gained momentum since it moved away from prime-time competition on La 1.
