The woman said she noticed a swollen vein on her leg after the lengthy bathroom visit. Unsure how serious it was, she turned to ChatGPT for advice.

The chatbot told her to go to the emergency room without delay, she said, because if it was a clot there was no time to wait. She added that the strangest part was that just half an hour earlier she had simply been sitting on the toilet with her phone for a long time.

Two days later, an ultrasound confirmed a thrombus in her popliteal vein. Doctors recommended she see a vascular surgeon to determine a course of treatment.

The article also noted a previous warning about defecation syncope, which can occur when intense straining lowers blood pressure and irritates the vagus nerve.
