A new bathroom design trend is replacing traditional shower curtains and glass cubicles with soft glass curtains, according to natemat.pl. The outlet describes soft, or flexible, glass as a thick film or mat made of clear plastic, a material already common on construction sites, in warehouses and in food industry facilities.
The material resembles ordinary glass because it is transparent, but it does not break, does not stick to skin, and is described as inexpensive, smooth and light. That lightness allows the curtains to be fixed to ceiling mounts, which natemat.pl says is a less invasive solution than installing a standard shower cubicle.
The material is hygienic and easy to clean, though it needs to dry fully before being rolled up to prevent harmful microorganisms from developing. Using it also reduces limescale buildup and streaks on flat surfaces, as well as dirt on silicone seals, described as one of the biggest problems in modern bathrooms.
Design benefits
Because bathrooms tend to be smaller than other rooms, opaque walls or fabric curtains can make the space feel cramped and can hide design elements like glossy tiles that create a mirror-like effect. Transparent walls also let in more light, which matters since lighting is usually placed at the center of the room and near the mirror.
