Spice Girls tease new project in video as fans speculate

The Spice Girls have shared a cryptic video on social media indicating that the pop group will make a joint announcement on Thursday. The video was published on the group official Instagram profile on Wednesday, September 9, suggesting that the former girl group could be preparing a stage return later this year.

According to the post, the announcement is scheduled for Thursday, September 10, at around 10:00 am Brasilia time. In the clip, the camera gradually zooms in on a newspaper page carrying a notice asking readers if they are Spice Girls fans with the ability to sing and dance, or if they are superfans, collectors, or music lovers.

Below the message, the newspaper features a description of the band, the date and time for Thursday, and a notice stating that sheet music is not required, though viewers will need a record player or a CD player. At the end of the clip, the code 061126 appears in the format of a mobile phone number, which several fans identified as a potential release date of November 6.

The teaser video is set to the track Wannabe, the group famous hit song that reached its 30th anniversary in 2026. Following the upload, followers rapidly began speculating in the comments section about whether the band was teasing a return to the stage or a special anniversary re-release of their hit song.

Social media users reacted with intense enthusiasm to the post. One commenter asked what was taking place, another stated in disbelief that they were overwhelmed to the point of feeling sick, and a third user wrote that they had spent their entire life training for whatever project was being prepared.

Melanie C downplayed reunion talks

Despite the widespread excitement among fans, group member Melanie C previously dismissed rumors of an upcoming reunion performance earlier this year. Speaking in March 2026 during an interview on The Smallzy Show, she revealed that while the five artists remained in regular contact, they were not negotiating a stage return.

Melanie C stated that no reunion was taking place, although she noted that the bandmates were in constant communication and shared a strong desire to create something together. She added that she remained very optimistic and expressed hope that fans would see all five Spice Girls reunited at some point in the future.

A history of global success

Formed in London in 1994, the Spice Girls became one of the most successful pop acts in music history. The original lineup consisted of Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, and Emma Bunton, who became globally recognized under their respective stage personas as Posh, Ginger, Sporty, Scary, and Baby Spice.

The group achieved global stardom after releasing Wannabe as their debut single in 1996, which topped charts in over 30 countries and popularized their signature Girl Power slogan. The quintet went on to sell tens of millions of records worldwide with hit studio albums such as Spice and Spiceworld, while also starring in the 1997 comedy film Spice World, before taking an extended hiatus in 2000 to pursue solo careers.

Last joint performance in 2012

The new Instagram post marks a sudden return to social media activity for the group after nearly 25 years apart. Before following separate professional paths, the group had their last joint performance during the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, where all five members reunited to perform a medley of their biggest hits atop iconic British black taxicabs.
