Taylor Swift has lowered the American flag at her Rhode Island mansion to half-staff following the death of country legend Dolly Parton.
The touching gesture at the 36-year-old pop star's coastal property comes days after she issued a heartfelt statement paying tribute to the Jolene hitmaker, who died on Tuesday at age 80.
Content creator Kayla Mandeville, who is based in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, captured the scene outside Swift's estate and shared the image on Instagram.
Mandeville captioned the photo: "Flag lowered outside of Taylor Swift's mansion in honor of Dolly Parton."
Swift originally purchased the sprawling coastal mansion in 2013 for $17.75 million. The property sits along the Rhode Island shoreline in New England.
The personal tribute aligned with official national mourning after US President Donald Trump ordered all flags across the United States to be flown at half-staff in honor of Parton.
Flag Lowered at Rhode Island Estate
Parton passed away earlier on Tuesday at a medical center in Nashville, Tennessee. Swift, who began her music career in country before transitioning into a global pop megastar, joined stars across the world in honoring the music icon.
The singer shared an emotional statement with the Daily Mail on Tuesday night, expressing her deep sorrow over the loss of the legendary artist.
Swift and Parton shared history in country music, having been pictured together at the Grand Ole Opry's 85th Birthday celebration in 2010 at the historic Nashville venue.
"A world without Dolly doesn’t feel possible, real, or right," Swift said in her statement. "But because of the eternally generous way she spent her time on this earth and the countless lives she changed for the better, her legacy will be an everlasting one."
Swift praised Parton's ability to inspire others while remaining authentic to herself throughout her iconic decades-long career.
"She was truly the gift that kept on giving. Dolly gave us someone to look up to while encouraging us to be who we are as individuals," Swift continued. "Somehow she was able to give us her lessons about the world gently and honestly, simultaneously, and oftentimes hilariously."
Tribute Statement to Country Icon
Swift highlighted the rare balance Parton maintained between her private persona and public generosity.
"She managed to give the world the ultimate mystery and fantasy in some corners of her life, but to give full transparency in the ways that counted," Swift added. "Somehow she was true grace and true grit, all in one dazzling person. She possessed the softest heart when it came to the struggles of others, and a backbone of steel to defend her own self-worth as an artist."
Swift concluded her statement by thanking Parton for her music and her extensive philanthropy work for children worldwide.
"Along with her other fans, I am so grateful for all of it. For the melodies and lyrics she wrote that thawed even the coldest hearts. For the millions of books she provided children all over the world so that they might fall in love with stories the way she did," Swift wrote.
"For the tightropes she walked so that young girls like me could grow up dreaming of joining the circus too. Dolly, I’ll think of you each step of the way."
Passing at Nashville Medical Center
The news of Parton's death was first confirmed on Tuesday in an Instagram video posted by her nephew, Bryan Seaver.
Later that day, representatives for Parton released a statement to People revealing that the singer had died following a brief battle with cancer, though they did not specify the type of cancer.
"Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched," the statement read. "After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones."
The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville is a comprehensive cancer research and care facility in Tennessee.
Multimillion Dollar Donation to Children
Prior to Parton's passing, Swift had actively supported the country star's charitable endeavors alongside her husband, Travis Kelce.
Shortly before tying the knot at Madison Square Garden in New York City in July, Swift and Kelce donated an astounding $26 million to various charities, including Parton's Imagination Library.
The couple designated $2 million specifically for the Imagination Library, a book giveaway program founded over 30 years ago with the mission of "fostering a love of reading" for children around the globe.
Following the donation, Parton shared a video message on X to express her gratitude to the newly married couple, stating she was "overjoyed" by their generosity.
"Taylor and Travis, it's Dolly," the singer began in the video. "I was just told that you two are making a donation of two million dollars to my Imagination Library. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"I'm blown away and overjoyed with that gratitude. Now it's evident that you two have made giving back a key part of your lives," Parton continued.
Parton also joked about their upcoming wedding and future family plans in the clip, asking: "So, hey, when you have your firstborn, can I have it? Because that is gonna be one special baby!"
Parton cited the core mission of the Dollywood Foundation, which is to "Dream More, Care More, Learn More and Be More."
"And thank you again for your very generous gift, and we'll continue that mission even in bigger ways now with your money," Parton added in her message. "So thank you, and know that I will always love you."
