Songs by 36-year-old singer-songwriter Taylor Swift have been removed from videos posted on social media by the election campaign team of US President Donald Trump. Neither the White House nor a spokesperson for Swift has commented on the removal of the tracks from the posts.
Swift has not spoken recently about the US president, but she supported his Democratic opponent, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, in the 2024 election. During the 2020 presidential contest, Swift wrote on social media that Trump knew very well that voters did not want him as president.
Trump has repeatedly criticized Swift and posted online after her endorsement of Harris that he hated the singer. Last year, Trump wrote online asking if anyone had noticed that Swift was no longer hot since he declared his hatred for her.
TikTok campaign videos muted
Dozens of musical artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have requested that the Trump administration stop using their music. On August 3, a video posted to Trump's campaign account on TikTok featured Swift's song August, but the audio has since been removed.
The video showed Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump watching fireworks while standing on a balcony. Text on the clip described a mood because it was August and Donald Trump was president, while the post caption stated confidence that Swift would be excited about the song's use.
Audio was also removed from an August 6 post that asked if viewers knew Swift had written an entire album about the color of the Republican Party. In addition, Variety reported that sound was stripped from a November 6, 2025 post featuring her song Father Figure.
Past comments on engagement and marriage
Despite his criticism of Swift following her support for Harris, Trump congratulated the singer last year on her engagement to NFL player Travis Kelce. Trump said at the time that he wished them luck, calling Kelce a great player and person while describing Swift as a wonderful person.
Swift and Travis Kelce married in New York in July.
