Taylor Swift was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) at the 2026 Emmys for her concert film The Eras Tour: The Final Show, but she will not attend the ceremony at the Peacock Theatre on September 14 because her category will not be televised.
Swift's category was already decided at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 5, where The Muppet Show took home the trophy over her concert special. The other nominees in the category were Dave Chappelle: The Unstoppable..., Nikki Glaser: Good Girl and Wicked: One Wonderful Night.
Chiefs Kickoff Falls on Emmys Day
With her category already settled, Swift's schedule has opened up for her to support her husband, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, at the team's season kickoff against the Denver Broncos in Kansas City, which falls on the same day as the Emmys ceremony.
The Eras Tour remains one of Swift's signature achievements, but the singer has said she can't help but shift her focus to Kelce's games once football season begins.
Swift on Her Football Obsession
Addressing speculation about a possible future Super Bowl halftime performance during an October appearance on The Tonight Show, Swift said: "I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field. Like, that is violent chess. That is gladiators without swords. The whole season I am locked in on what that man is doing on that field."
She added that her devotion to football has "nothing to do with Travis," saying she is "just too locked in."
Swift has also said her relationship with Kelce opened up a new world for her. During an August 2025 appearance on Kelce's podcast, New Heights, she said: "Oh, my god, I fell in love with it. I became obsessed with it." She joked that even her friends have noticed the change, saying, "My friends are like, 'Who body-snatched you?'"
Kelce, for his part, told her on the same podcast episode: "I am forever grateful for you diving into the football world wholeheartedly."
A History of Game Day Style
Swift's football fandom began publicly in September 2023, when she attended her first Chiefs game, at Arrowhead Stadium against the Chicago Bears, wearing a DOEN tank top, Ksubi denim shorts and a Chiefs windbreaker. She went on to become a fixture at Chiefs games throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons, wearing looks from designers including Louis Vuitton, Versace, Vivienne Westwood and Chanel.
She was in the stands when the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 at the Super Bowl in February 2024, wearing a black Dion Lee crochet corset. A year later, she watched the Chiefs fall to the Philadelphia Eagles at the Super Bowl in New Orleans in February 2025, wearing bedazzled denim shorts and a $1,300 Alaia bodysuit.
