Teremok movie starring Roman Kurtsyn begins filming

Film production company KinoFirma has officially launched production on Teremok, a new live-action family adventure movie starring actor Roman Kurtsyn, ahead of its scheduled premiere in Russian cinemas in 2027.

Filming for the project will take several months to complete. The picture is being directed by Alexander Babaev, a filmmaker who previously directed the family adventure movie Gnome Treasures.

Kurtsyn, a prominent Russian actor known for performing his own stunts and starring in the 2020 disaster film Fire, leads an ensemble cast. The film also stars Liza Arzamasova, Roman Pankov, and Sofia Petrova. Arzamasova rose to fame as a child star in the long-running Russian television sitcom Daddy's Daughters, while Pankov recently featured in the family project Prostokvashino and Petrova starred in the folklore adaptation House Elf Kuzya. Both Prostokvashino and House Elf Kuzya are modern live-action and animated remakes of iconic Soviet-era children's franchises.

Magical forest quest

The plot centers on a writer named Varvara who finds herself unexpectedly transported into a magical forest alongside her son Ivan, a blacksmith named Dobrynya, and Dobrynya's daughter Marya. Their only way to return home is to find the Book of Secrets, a powerful magical relic hidden inside a mysterious dwelling known as Teremok, which belongs to an enchantress.

However, the travelers face immediate danger from villains who are also hunting for the relic. The group must contend with an evil witch named Shishiga and an ancient sorcerer named Voron. In Slavic mythology, Shishiga is traditionally depicted as a mischievous or malevolent forest spirit who torments lost travelers, while raven figures often represent dark sorcery in regional folklore.

Folklore roots and release

The film takes its title from Teremok, one of the most famous Russian folk tales. The classic story tells the tale of various woodland animals who build a communal home inside a small wooden chamber, and it remains a foundational story in Eastern European children's literature.

KinoFirma stated that filming will continue over the coming months as the production team prepares the fantasy picture for its nationwide theatrical release in 2027.
