The Killers song All These Things That I’ve Done placed second in Billboard list of the 100 best bridges, behind Outkast hit Hey Ya, Parade reported. The 2004 track earned new recognition more than two decades after its release.
Vocalist Brandon Flowers wrote the song following a late night conversation with Matt Pinfield, who worked at Columbia Records. Pinfield participated in a mentorship program for military service members with music backgrounds who were returning from Iraq with post-traumatic stress disorder. He also shared personal feelings about his divorce during the talk.
Flowers went home after the conversation and wrote the track. The band's former manager later told Pinfield that the song was dedicated to that story. In particular, the line I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier connected to the military mentorship program.
Inspiration and gospel choir
U2 and David Bowie inspired Flowers sound on the track. One major feature of the song became its bridge with a powerful gospel choir. The Sweet Inspirations, a group that worked with Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin in the 1960s and 1970s, recorded the vocal parts.
The song earned critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination for best rock performance by a duo or group with vocal. It later entered song rankings by XFM, NME, and The Daily Telegraph. The track also remains one of the band's most played live songs, trailing only Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me.
