The Russian fantasy movie The Last Warrior: Kolobok surpassed 700 million rubles in box office earnings on August 22, according to official data.
Figures from the Unified Federal Automated Information System, the Russian state cinema tracking registry known as EAIS, show the film reached the milestone on its 17th day in Russian theaters following its premiere on August 6. The feature currently occupies third place in local box office charts, trailing the short films Hey, Man! and Farewell.
The film is a spin-off of The Last Warrior, a high-profile Russian fantasy franchise produced in collaboration with Russian studio Yellow, Black and White. The series draws heavily on traditional Slavic mythology and folklore, reinterpreting classic fairy tale characters for modern cinema audiences.
The Last Warrior: Kolobok focuses on the origin story of Kolobok, a mythical round loaf of baked bread from East Slavic folklore. The plot depicts how the character was baked, how he escaped, fell in with bandits, and eventually joined forces with a down-on-his-luck baker named Tikhon.
Comedian Garik Kharlamov returned to voice the title character, having previously voiced Kolobok in the 2021 franchise installment The Last Warrior: Root of Evil. Actors Dmitry Zhuravlev and Mila Ershova also returned to main roles. Anton Maslov, who previously served as a creator on the television series spin-off The Last Warrior: Heritage, directed the feature.
Controversy Over Delayed Superhero Release
The production encountered scandal prior to its theatrical release when Russian cinema operators postponed the unofficial premiere of the Hollywood comic book film Spider-Man: New Day to August 20. The schedule change was made to protect screen time for the domestic release of Kolobok.
Following Western studio departures from the Russian market in 2022, local theaters have frequently screened major Hollywood blockbusters unofficially through secondary ticketing arrangements paired with domestic short films.
According to media reports, unknown users on social media launched online threats against director Anton Maslov and the main star after the superhero movie was pushed back. Authorities have since opened a criminal case against the social media users responsible for the threats.
