'Todas las de la Ley' season 2 trailer sets Disney+ date

Disney+ has released the first trailer for the second season of legal drama Todas las de la Ley, confirming a November 4 premiere date for the return of the series starring Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Sarah Paulson, and Glenn Close.

The streaming service announced that the new season will launch with three episodes on its premiering Wednesday before transitioning to a single weekly episode release every Wednesday thereafter. The show returns exactly one year after its controversial television debut.

Critical response and audience numbers

Despite earning a second season order, the legal drama stands as the lowest-rated series in the entire Disney+ programming catalogue. Professional television critics overwhelmingly panned the first season upon release, while user ratings submitted across online review platforms were similarly low.

However, initial viewership figures proved strong enough for Disney+ to renew the series. Millions of subscribers tuned in to watch the high-profile cast during its first run, generating the high audience volume required to secure a second installment.

Disney+ is the subscription video-on-demand streaming service owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company. Launched in late 2019, the platform serves as the exclusive streaming hub for original programming and library content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.

Star power in contemporary Hollywood

The critical performance of the series reflects a broader trend in modern film and television production where assembling a star-studded cast no longer guarantees critical acclaim or box office success.

Several recent major motion pictures featuring ensemble casts of prominent actors have faced similar critical or commercial difficulties upon release. These include Guy Ritchie's action feature The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Francis Ford Coppola's self-financed drama Megalopolis, Matthew Vaughn's spy action comedy Argylle, the feature film adaptation of the video game franchise Borderlands, and Jonah Hill's comedy feature Outcome starring Keanu Reeves.

Ritchie is a British filmmaker best known for stylized crime comedies such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Coppola is the veteran Oscar-winning director behind landmark American cinematic works including The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now. The inclusion of high-profile talent in their recent features did not shield the projects from mixed reception.

While critical misfires involving major ensemble casts are less common in serialized television, Todas las de la Ley is highlighted as the clearest recent television example of a star-studded production that suffered poor critical scores while maintaining high audience viewing figures.

Divorce firm storyline and legal drama

The plot of the series continues to follow attorney Allura Grant and her fellow legal partners at Grant, Ronson & Greene, a specialized law firm focusing on high-stakes divorce litigation.

The fictional practice was founded after several female attorneys decided to walk away from a male-dominated law firm to establish their own independent practice. The first season established that the interpersonal drama and conflicts involving the partners extend far beyond formal courtroom proceedings.

The upcoming second season promises to maintain this core dynamic, continuing to focus on intense professional clashes, guarded secrets, and personal betrayals between the partners.

Kim Kardashian, who plays lead attorney Allura Grant, first built an international media presence through unscripted television and business ventures before taking on dramatic acting roles. Naomi Watts is a British-Australian actress who earned Academy Award nominations for her performances in Mulholland Drive and 21 Grams. Sarah Paulson is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner recognized for her roles in American Horror Story, while Glenn Close is an eight-time Oscar nominee with a career spanning classic films such as Fatal Attraction and Dangerous Liaisons. Niecy Nash-Betts is a Primetime Emmy winner acclaimed for her work in Dahmer and Reno 911.

New cast members and guest appearances

The recurring cast for season two will feature returning actors Matthew Noszka and Teyana Taylor alongside Brazilian actor Cauã Reymond, who joins the series as a regular main character.

Noszka is an American actor and model who previously appeared in television dramas and romantic comedies. Taylor is an American singer, songwriter, and actress who earned widespread critical acclaim for her starring role in the dramatic film A Thousand and One. Reymond is one of Brazil's most prominent television actors, widely recognized for his leading roles in internationally distributed Latin American telenovelas such as Avenida Brasil.

The second season will also feature guest appearances from a wide array of recognizable television personalities, including Denise Richards, Jaime Pressly, and Margo Martindale.

Richards is an American actress known for her roles in Starship Troopers and the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough as well as her appearances on reality television. Pressly won a Primetime Emmy Award for her comedic performance in My Name Is Earl, while Martindale is a three-time Primetime Emmy-winning character actress known for her dramatic roles in Justified and The Americans.

In addition, the new episodes will feature guest spots from several personalities originating from popular unscripted reality television franchises, specifically The Real Housewives and RuPaul's Drag Race.

The Real Housewives is a long-running unscripted television franchise produced by the Bravo network that documents the personal lives of affluent women across major American cities, including Beverly Hills and New York. RuPaul's Drag Race is a multi-Emmy-winning reality competition series hosted by drag icon RuPaul Charles celebrating drag performance, fashion, and artistry.
