Hair-loss disease was joked about by Chris Oscar during last year’s Oscar ceremony

The actressJada Pinkett Smithtalked about having alopecia in an interview with The Guardian. Last year, her husband,Will Smithassaulted Chris Rock after the comedian and presenter made a joke about the disease live during the Academy Awards Ceremony.

“I learned a lot about letting go. And I learned a deeper beauty within myself, being able to let my hair go (away),” Jada said. “(The diagnosis) has been difficult, scary – because specifically, as black women, we identify a lot with our hair. And it was scary. I really had to dig deep and see my beauty beyond my aesthetics.”

jada is producing the documentary series african queens about Queen Njinga Mbande who commanded the current region of Angola in the 17th century. And she reported on her relationship with her own blackness.

“I had to deal with the need to be ‘less black’. How do you deal with people being threatened for your blackness? Having to really not take it personally and understand, ‘OK, this is the land I’m on right now. How do I get through this without letting their discomfort with my blackness get to me?” she said.

ne of the main pop culture events in 2022 was the slap that Will Smith gave in Chris Rock in the ceremony of oscarafter the comedian made a joke about the alopecia of Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of the star of Fresh prince of Bel Air. Now, the actor justified the reason for the slap: “repressed anger.”

During participation in The Daily Showpresented by Trevor Noah, Smith opened up about the incident that garnered him some boycotts in hollywoodsuch as cancellation/suspension and postponement of some projects.

“I was going through something that night, you know? Not that it justifies my behavior,” said the star, who also noted how there were “a lot of nuances and complexities to it. I just – I lost it.”

In the program, Will Smith also explained the learnings he had from the slap: “What I would say is that you never know what someone is going through. I understand how shocking that was for people… I lost myself. That was a pent-up anger for a long time. It was a Horrible night, as you can imagine.”
