[The following story contains spoilers for Moon Knight.]
moon knight Director Mohamed Diab is proud of what he has created, especially for his native Egypt.
In one of the most satisfying scenes of the Wednesday Night (series?) Finale, May Kalamawi Leila El-Faul temporarily agreed to become an avatar of Tavernet, making her the MCU’s first Egyptian female superhero. This transformation eventually led to an awe-inspiring moment on the battlefield between Leila and a young Egyptian woman who couldn’t believe her eyes. This exchange was also very personal for Diab and his family.
“My daughter, when she was five years old, wanted to straighten her curly hair because she had never felt this way in any Disney movie or cartoon. So for this woman, who looks like an ordinary Egyptian with beautiful curly hair, becoming a superhero is a big deal. [Egyptian] people are treated moon knight as if it were ours javi panther. “You don’t know how big it is,” Diab said. the hollywood reporter.
Diab also reveals the scene where his favorite Oscar Isaac is cut from the end. “As good as everything was, [Oscar] In fact, he directed you to something better. He stared at his mother blankly and paced back and forth between Mark and Stephen. s oh, My God. This scene itself is an Oscar-worthy performance. “I hope Marvel releases that scene one day, because Oscar was a genius.”
In that last conversation THRDiab also talked about revealing Jake Lockley mid-credits scene, as well as where that story should go.
For those still wondering how many moon knight It was real versus imagination, what can you tell them?
I can say that I have no answer. We tried to imitate what people were doing. [Dissociative Identity Disorder] I can feel that. So people will have a lot of theories about it because we had three worlds: the normal world, the afterlife, and the psychiatric wards. And to be honest, the truth is very harsh and I think it’s a loop. For example, Mark’s younger brother painted a fish, so if he did, how would Stephen have a fish with only one fin? It just makes you wonder who started what. So I like it and I think that’s what everyone should think. Everyone must form their own opinion and one day, if this story expands, we will delve into it and continue the discussion.

So you spent the entire season making fun of Mark’s third alter ego, Jake Lockley, and finally revealing him mid-credits scene. What followed this decision?
Trial and error. Before that, we wanted to meet Jake and even tried it on a draft. But it wasn’t saturated enough. So that wasn’t fair to Jake and we also wanted to focus on Mark and Stephen, who was [head writer] jeremy [Slater] The idea from the start. So we kept going and pulling until we found the beginning of Jake’s story, and that was just the end. [season] There was a suitable place for it. It’s open and one day, if we have the opportunity to expand this world, we can create Jake’s own world.

Leila finally became a superhero, which was pretty exciting. How much does your evolution mean to you?
I want to thank the writers for the idea that Leila is Egyptian. When Sarah and I [Goher] – who [consulting] The show’s producer and my wife came to the show, we definitely helped shape it. and while may [Calamawy] He arrived, he became his best ally and we all came together to make him a character like him. And the moment he becomes a superhero, you don’t know what that means for Egypt. My daughter, when she was five years old, wanted to straighten her curly hair because she never felt like she had seen it in any of the Disney movies and cartoons. So for this woman, who looks like an ordinary Egyptian with beautiful curly hair, becoming a superhero is a big deal. To some extent, many people in Third World countries feel culturally defeated, and we feel that the West is a little superior. But now the Egyptians were behind and in front of the camera and they were putting on one of Disney’s best shows, so this show is a national pride. people are treated moon knight as if it were ours javi panther. You don’t know how big it is.
Thanks Steven for saving me in the final. Was there ever a version of this show where he didn’t come back?
(laughs.) Never. The journey involves Mark and Stephen learning to live together so you don’t miss one of them. By the way, here’s what we learned from the DID experts we have on hand. People with PDD learn to live out their identities and don’t undo one or more of their identities.
Since all three individuals have different accents, who asked the museum staff for the premiere?
That’s the answer for another time, because it could be Jake and it could be Mark. You never know, but I think it’s up to the viewer to decide. There are clues everywhere. But this is worth discussing, and we may answer that one day. However, if I am brought back to expand this world, I want to see the world through Jake’s eyes for a while.
Do you think Oscar and May will play these characters again?
100 percent because I know how much you liked it. They loved him. I spoke to Oscar today and he told us everything on zoom. moon knight It is what he is most proud of in his life. So I think he wanted to come back.
If you could walk into Kevin Feig’s office right now and light up another Marvel project for yourself, which one would you choose?
moon knightfilm.
Before the first episode aired, we talked about how much we love ordering steak from Steven. Scene, but it felt like it was a scene from the last two episodes that stopped him from calling it his favorite. So which of the last two episodes is the opposite of the steak scene for you?
Well, the emotional stakes are up in the fifth episode. So if we talk about the amount of emotional intensity, in the fifth episode everything is more intense. By the way, there was a longer version of this steak scene that was also fantastic. So my favorites will be the steak scene and the scene after Shiva sits down when Mark cries on the floor. So Mark and Stephen talk about it there. Oscar did a fantastic job through three different people with a sense of sadness and it was a wonderful and emotional scene. I love what Oscar did there.

The fifth episode, to say the least, is a special episode. Was your chin on the floor when you watched the Oscars from behind the monitor?
I think he’ll say I just rooted for him, but I always say, “You’ll win it all” because he’s always wonderful. He’s a genius actor. The irony is that my favorite scene was cut. It was in the sixth episode. No matter how good it all was, he actually promoted it even better. He stared at his mother blankly and paced back and forth between Mark and Stephen. s My God. This scene itself is an Oscar-worthy performance. I hope Marvel releases that scene one day because Oscar was a genius.
