Cate Blanchett criticizes cancel culture; ‘A healthy critique is necessary’

Actress competes for Oscar 2023 for her work in ‘Tár’, in theaters

The actress Kate Blanchettrevealed in an interview with Radio Times be against cancel culture. According to her, works should not be analyzed outside of a historical context and that we should not exclude artists involved in controversies.

If you don’t read old books because they’re mildly offensive because they say things in historical context, then we’re never going to understand the minds of that time and we’re destined to repeat the mistakes,” Blanchett said.

During the interview, the actress also mentions the example of the artist Pablo Picassowho has been the target of criticism for having had abusive relationships, the Spanish artist married twice and had numerous lovers throughout his life, with cases of suicide and hospitalization among women.
