President Biden appointed Carine Jean-Pierre as his new spokeswoman.

Jean-Pierre replaces Jen Psaki, who will step down on May 13 and is expected to join MSNBC in the coming months. Biden also announced on Thursday that veteran political and communications strategist Anita Dunn will return to his administration as a senior adviser.

“Karin not only brings the necessary experience, talent and good faith to this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the Biden-Harris administration on behalf of the American people,” Biden said in a statement Thursday. . “Jill and I have known and respected Carine for a long time and she will be a strong voice speaking for me and this government.

As for Psaki, Biden said he “set the standard for bringing decency, respect and scenery back to the White House boardroom.

“I want to thank Jen for raising the bar, connecting directly and genuinely with the American people and maintaining a sense of humor in that moment,” he added.

Jean-Pierre currently serves as deputy chief of staff and previously served in the Biden campaign and in his office during the Obama administration. He also served as Director of Public Affairs for MoveOn.org. He will be the first black man to serve as a White House spokesperson.
