Before revealing the secrets of choosing a brush, it is necessary to say a few words about dental floss. It is necessary as a first step in dental care, as it frees the interdental spaces from food particles. Quality floss should slide smoothly between your teeth. Now about choosing a brush – everything is not at all as simple as it seems. Toothbrushes should be selected individually and not buy 3 or 4 for all family members. How to do?

  • Assess the condition of the gums – normally they are pale pink, without bleeding. A medium-hard brush is suitable for them, but if the gums are inflamed or bleeding, it is better to take a soft one.
  • The larger and longer the teeth, the larger the brush should be for them. For large teeth, a brush with a head length of 2.5-3 cm is optimal (it is also standard), for medium or small teeth, it is better to choose a brush with a smaller head – 2 cm .
  • If you shine with a perfectly even smile, feel free to pick up a brush with regular regular bristles. But if the teeth are pushed forward or overlap, the best option is a “zig-zag” bristle or a mono-bundle brush, consisting of a single bundle of bristles.
  • There are four degrees of bristle stiffness on the brush: hard (“hard”), medium (“medium”), soft (“soft”) and super soft (“super soft”). The higher the hardness, the higher the abrasiveness of the brush, and therefore hard brushes are rarely used – they can damage the soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Soft to very soft toothbrushes are best suited for surgical procedures and tooth sensitivity (hyperesthesia). Well, medium hard bristles are the most popular because they do the best job of brushing your teeth.

Toothbrushes should be kept clean and changed in a timely manner – a regular (manual) brush once a month! Yes, yes, so often! After all, brush bristles resist plaque buildup over time, and an unwashed brush becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.

But let’s not forget the brush’s closest friend – toothpaste. There is no so-called pasta for the whole family. For each, you need to choose your own personal paste, which is optimal for maintaining hygiene. It is best not to use the same paste for more than 4 months. Also remember: toothpastes with an anti-cavity effect, against plaque and tartar, for the prevention of gum disease are your best friends. But it is better not to buy, without consulting a dentist, pastes against bleeding and inflammation of the gums, mucous membranes, against dry mouth, as well as whitening pastes and pastes for smokers.

You should not brush your teeth horizontally (this can lead to abrasion of the enamel near the gums), but in a sweeping circular motion. Consider 3 important points:

  • brush your teeth thoroughly at night;
  • during the day, to maintain cleanliness, use special foams and foams;

After brushing your teeth, be careful to clean your tongue with a special brush or scraper. If there is plaque on the tongue, it will gradually disappear with regular cleaning. And the last thing: it doesn’t matter how long you brush your teeth, but what the result is. The surface of the teeth should be smooth. By the way, keep in mind that cleaning the inner surface requires 3 times more effort than the outer surface.

You don’t use mouthwash

Do you think mouthwashes are just another marketing ploy and financial scam? But no! Rinses help protect the cleaned surface of the teeth and prevent the formation of plaque, thereby helping to solve the main task of oral care – the fight against dental plaque. Choose a rinse aid that does not contain ethyl alcohol or strong antiseptics. The best choice is for products from the categories “anti-plaque” (anti-plaque) and “anti-tartar” (against tartar).

Are you into home whitening systems?

In an effort to achieve snow whiteness, some people go overboard with bleaching. Remember, there are 4 indications for such a procedure:

  • staining of teeth (in smokers, tea and coffee drinkers),
  • slight pigmentation,
  • hereditary staining of teeth,
  • age-related gray or yellow discoloration of the teeth.

But there are many more contraindications: adolescence, pregnancy, lactation, pathological abrasion, deep cracks, sensitivity to physical and chemical factors. It is also important to remember: too frequent bleaching can damage the enamel and the anatomical integrity of the teeth, leading to defects and increased sensitivity. You did not answer ?
